Windows 11 is losing users again! What's going on?
Microsoft is increasingly focusing on developing a new Windows operating system. However, the current Windows 11 still has many improvements. The new version of the operating system brings a renewed design and puts the user and their content at the center.
However, Windows 11 is unfortunately losing popularity. According to statistics from StatCounter, the new operating system is currently used by 34.1 percent of users worldwide (-0.84%). In practice, this means that the number of users has decreased significantly, due to the increased popularity of Windows 10, which is currently used by 62.73 percent of users worldwide (+0.9%).
Microsoft, of course, wants to reduce this percentage and “migrate” as many users as possible to Windows 11. The company will actually try to achieve this by abandoning major feature upgrades for Windows 10. The Windows 10 22H2 update was the last major update of this operating system. It has been available to users since November 18 last year. Microsoft, of course, encourages users to switch to the much more modern Windows 11 24H2. In this way, it hopes to significantly increase the market share of the new operating system. But it seems that it is not succeeding.
Windows 10 will be supported until October 14, 2025. Of course, there will be "exceptions". These will be for individuals and companies that are willing to pay for additional support. Individuals will have to pay Microsoft around 50 euros per year for this, while companies will be exempted from paying 25 euros per year per PC that will still run the Windows 10 operating system.
