Windows 11 finally comes to older computers
Microsoft recently announced that there will be no Windows 12 operating system at least this year. Instead, we will actually get the 24H2 update for the existing Windows 11 operating system. However, there is no reason to be discouraged. The Windows 11 24H2 update will be entirely based on artificial intelligence. This should, in turn, improve the overall user experience.
Users of older PCs can now also be excited about the new version of the Windows 11 operating system. The novelty can now be installed on older computers. These are computer systems with processors that do not support the newer POPCNT processor technology. The latter processor commands or functions are responsible for resetting the bit counter to one.
Processors with support for POPCNT technology are rare. These are processors that were offered for sale 15 years ago. The latter technology was built into the processors in 2007. Intel built POPCNT technology into Nehalem processors, and AMD into Barcelona processors. Despite the improved support, it will still be necessary to check whether we will actually be able to install the new Windows 11.
Microsoft's move was expected. The computer giant will end support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025. If you want to continue using the operating system safely, you will have to pay an annual fee. Microsoft, of course, wants consumers to switch to Windows 11 instead. This is also why Microsoft decided to relax the hardware requirements for Windows 11.
