Will HDMI and DisplayPort soon go to the eternal hunting grounds?

Today, there are two interfaces that are often chosen for digital video transmission: High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) and DisplayPort (DP). Display Port and HDMI cable compete with each other for their popularity. But these technologies provide several specifications that are suitable for different purposes. While HDMI and DisplayPort interfaces are capable of handling even the most demanding tasks, the Chinese have come up with their own video interface.

Chinese scientists have developed a special graphics interface called GPMI (General Purpose Media Interface). It provides data transfer speeds of 192 gigabits per second, which provides support for 8K resolution. In addition, it can provide power up to a staggering 480 watts. This means that the new interface is suitable for both serious work and games and multimedia playback.

The new GPMI interface is backed by 50 Chinese technology companies. Therefore, there is a high probability that it will become a part of everyday life on Chinese devices. If it proves to be successful in practice, we could also see it outside the Chinese market. However, it is too early to say whether the GPMI interface could threaten the established HDMI and DisplayPort standards.
