Which phones will soon be left without WhatsApp?

The WhatsApp mobile application has a large following among mobile device users. It is currently used by more than two billion individuals, and the number of users is growing at lightning speed. As they demand ever-new functionalities, they consequently require more modern mobile operating systems.

This is also the reason why Facebook recently decided to remove support for quite a few older mobile devices running outdated mobile operating systems from the list of supported devices on January 1, 2025. This is especially true for outdated Android smartphones.

The WhatsApp mobile app will soon stop working on mobile phones, tablets, and other mobile devices running outdated Android mobile operating systems. We're talking about the Android 4.4 KitKat mobile operating system or older. What does this actually mean for users?

Users of older Android smartphones will no longer receive software and security updates starting January 1, 2025. They will also have limited access to certain features. They will also be exposed to cyberattacks due to unpatched vulnerabilities.

So, if you have a relatively outdated mobile device, check the version of the Android mobile operating system. If it is "deprecated", you will need to buy a newer smartphone or tablet to continue using WhatsApp. Otherwise, you will have to resort to another mobile instant messaging application.
