AMD is expected to launch a new processor for its hugely popular AM4 platform soon. The Ryzen 5 5600X3D, which will include 3D V-Cache to improve framerates in games, was spotted by Twitter user @g01d3nm4ng0.

This discovery is important for several reasons. Users who are reluctant to invest in AMD's current AM5 platform and have older AM4 motherboards will have a cheaper option to improve gaming performance. This is especially true if they're upgrading from a Ryzen 1000, 2000, or 3000-series processor like the wildly popular Ryzen 5 2600.

In addition, this means that they will not need to buy DDR5 memory, which still commands a higher price compared to the older DDR4 memory. This will make the upgrade much cheaper, which is also an advantage for owners of current Intel processors, which support both DDR4 and DDR5 memory.

Intel is expected to introduce new processors for its LGA1700 socket this year, along with refreshed versions of the current 13th generation Raptor Lake processors. It still offers 12th generation processors at very affordable prices. AMD thus probably wants to fight for competitiveness in the low price segment, especially for those users who are not yet ready to switch to the AM5 socket.

The new processor will have six cores and 12 threads, and with 3D V-Cache, it is likely to offer a higher frame rate in games compared to the Ryzen 5 2600, Ryzen 5 3600 and Ryzen 5 5600. With a reasonable price, we expect it to be very positively received by users new processor. At the same time, AMD won't have to worry about affecting the sales of the latest Ryzen 7000 series with the new processor.
