Voice commands are now available to all ChatGPT users

A feature that was previously only available to paid users is now available to everyone. You can also test the novelty yourself, namely in the ChatGPT mobile application.

Somewhere between the firing of Sam Altman, who was hired by Microsoft and his return as the CEO of OpenAI, the familiar ChatGPT got a big and important new feature, which until now was only available to users using the paid version of the application . We are talking about voice commands that all users of the ChatGPT application can now use.

Instead of typing your query into a text box, you can now tap a button and verbally ask ChatGP your question. The chatbot converts speech to text and feeds it into its Large Language Model (LLM). Similarly, it will convert a text response into spoken words that you can hear as it responds with its robotic voice. You can think of it like talking to Google Assistant or Alexa.

To get started with voice chats in the ChatGPT app, go to Settings > New Features and choose Voice Chats. Once you've done that, tap the headset button in the top-right corner of the home screen and choose the voice you want from the five different voices.

OpenAI announced the feature Tuesday night amid a massive outage that lasted several hours. ChatGPT was unavailable to users worldwide on November 21st, and the company has promised to make a public postmortem of what happened and how it will avoid a similar outage in the future.
