PUBG game developer is preparing several projects
Most of you have already heard of it, some of you play it every day. We are, of course, talking about the game PUBG, which is largely responsible for the fact that the "battle-royale" genre has established itself as one of the most attractive in recent years. After a long time, the original creator of this bestseller came forward. Brendan "PlayerUnknown" Greene and his studio PlayerUnknown Productions have revealed that they have been working on several projects since the release of PUBG in 2024 leading up to an even bigger, final project.
The first is a game called Prologue: Go Wayback!, which is described as a "single-player open-world survival game." They first talked about it in 2021. Both then and now, the greatest emphasis was placed on the technology used in the game to "create terrain based on machine learning and allow the instant creation of millions of maps." We've seen similar technology in Starfield and No Man's Sky before, but feelings were mixed. The biggest criticism is that such worlds are usually empty, with no interesting content to encourage you to explore your surroundings. We'll see how they go about it in the Prologue game.
This is expected to go on sale next year in an early version on Steam, but there will be a few test periods first. As a preview of what players can expect, the studio has already released a free tech demo called Preface: Undiscovered World on Steam. You can view it on their Steam profile.
The studio says the upcoming games are building blocks on the way to their final project, codenamed "Artemis." The latter is supposed to be a multiplayer game, but what else we don't know yet. We got the first hint of the game's existence in 2022, but at that time they said that NFT tokens would also be built into the game. As expected, the response was not positive, so there was no mention of it in this announcement.
“My vision for Artemis is challenging, but we intend to take it one step at a time, and the three games will give us a solid technological foundation on which to move forward. After Prologue, two more games will be released in the coming years that will address critical technical challenges that will bring the studio closer to the final product.”
