A plastic, kid-friendly Apple Watch SE could spice things up on the market

The color palette of the Apple Watch SE hasn't changed significantly for a long time, and maybe it's finally time for Apple to think in that direction.
A plastic, kid-friendly Apple Watch SE could spice things up on the market

It's pretty impressive to see how Apple sells us practically the same Apple Watch smartwatch year after year. At least as far as the design of the device is concerned, it changes minimally. It is true that Apple always offers some new technical feature, functionality and improvement and upgrade, but there are no major changes in the appearance itself. It's also a fact that nobody really needs a new smartwatch every year, but the question is whether we can still talk about annual refreshes of the device.

But there's something on the horizon that could shake things up in this area: a plastic edition of the Apple Watch SE. Bloomberg correspondent Mark Gurman started the rumor last month, but it didn't garner much interest from tech media around the world. Last weekend, in its "e-newsletter" Power On wrote, among other things, that Apple uses plastic to make its smart watches in order to make them more child-friendly. He added the thought that the plastic design of the device could allow Apple to offer more different color combinations than before. The lack of color choices is one of the more common criticisms of Apple's smartwatches. It looks like this new, plastic model of the Apple Watch could actually be the biggest and most exciting update to the Apple Watch in years.

Make no mistake, we are in no way saying that the Apple Watch looks bad, quite the opposite. However, the color palette of the watch remained the same for several years. Their red variant is by far the boldest if you want to stand out a little. Then there are shades of black, a silver model, something similar to pink bavi, and the choice is slowly running out.

When it comes to the colors of the other devices, Apple is much bolder and more diverse. Especially when we look at the iMac and some "non-pro" iPhones. We can only imagine what would happen if Apple decides to make its SE watch more kid-friendly. We're sure this doesn't mean a return to those aggressive oranges, greens and yellows from the 90s (although it would be interesting to see what such watches would look like), but something like those purples and banana yellows from previous iPhone cycles would be a nice refresh series of devices.

The only downside to all of this is that we're talking about the SE model here. There is no doubt that it is an excellent smartwatch in many respects, however, we can miss certain things about it once we get used to the main "Series" edition of Apple watches. Probably, many would be willing to forget about some of the functionality if it meant more color options.
