The official ChatGPT app for Mac

The official ChatGPT app for Mac computers

ChatGPT now has a desktop app, but it's only available on macOS.

In a demo shown by OpenAI, users were able to open the ChatGPT desktop app in a small window next to another program. They asked ChatGPT questions about what was on their screen by typing or speaking it. ChatGPT then responded based on what it “saw”.

OpenAI says users can ask ChatGPT a question using the Option + Space keyboard shortcut, and they can also record their screen and discuss the recordings within the app. The new app will be available to both free users and those who pay for more features. However, it will initially only be available to ChatGPT Plus users, with a wider rollout to follow in the “coming weeks.”

OpenAI also plans to launch a Windows version of the app, but “later this year.” So ChatGPT is currently available as an app for iOS and Android.

OpenAI also shared an image of ChatGPT's new web UI, and it appears to come with some minor changes to the home screen and message layout. "We know that these models are becoming more and more complex," the company explains. "But we want the interaction experience to actually become more natural, easy, and not focus on the user interface at all, but focus on engaging with ChatGPT."

In addition to the new app and new user interface, the company also showed off its new GTP-4o model, which is free for all users.
