Tesla and Elon Musk announced the start of production in a post on the X platform (formerly Twitter) along with third quarter earnings. The official start of production is scheduled for November 30, when Musk and company will hold a huge show at the Gigafactory in Texas to celebrate the launch of the Cybertruck electric semi-truck and hand over the keys to the first customers.

The news about the start of Cybertruck sales was much needed for Tesla. The company revealed that it was recording a 44% drop in profits compared to the same period last year. As you know, the start of production of electric semi-trucks has been constantly delayed. In 2019, Musk promised sales in 2021, and then several times a year we could hear assurances that semi-trucks would soon be among us. This year, the sale date has already been postponed twice. Finally, they promised a summer presentation, but it was very soon clear that nothing would come of it. During this time, we were able to come across news and footage of the first prototypes on American roads several times. This was at least a sign that the development was coming to an end.

Tesla and Musk have not disclosed how many cars they will deliver to customers on the day of the event. With the start of mass production, the gigafactory in Austin is expected to be able to produce 125,000 Cybertrucks annually. Musk warned that the increase in production capacity will take place gradually. Their goal is to produce 250,000 Cybertrucks per year, but that shouldn't happen until late 2024 or early 2025.

They invested a lot of money in starting the production of the semi-truck

According to the disclosed balance sheet, it is obvious that the company has invested a lot of resources in the production of the semi-truck. The operating costs of the most famous manufacturer of e-cars increased by 43 percent compared to last year to 2.4 billion US dollars. Most of them were intended for Cybertruck.

"I want to emphasize that there are going to be a lot of challenges in achieving mass production with the Cybertruck," Musk said, noting that it will take about 18 months for the Cybertruck to start turning a profit.

“I think this is our best product yet. It will take a lot of work to achieve mass production and make a profit at a price people can afford,” the CEO continued.

"If you want to do something radical and innovative and something really special like Cybertruck, it's extremely difficult because you have no reference, you can't copy anything. You have to invent not only the car, but also the manufacturing method. So, the more unknown the territory, the less predictable the outcome."

They are developing the Dojo super computer

Tesla also revealed that it has increased spending on artificial intelligence development as the company works to launch its Dojo supercomputer. Dojo is designed to train Tesla's neural networks to advance the car's autonomous driving capabilities as well as Optimus' humanoid robot.

Since the Cybetruck's initial introduction, Tesla has been overtaken and overtaken by some of its competitors. Ford presented the F-150 Lightning, and Rivian presented the R1T model. The Chevrolet Silverado and Hummer's SUT electric contender are also coming. There is no shortage of competition. Tesla, however, has the advantage of diligently generating interest in its electric semi-truck all these years. As many as 2 million owners, who were the first to reserve a Cybertruck, are waiting for the start of production.
