The cheapest Cybertruck now costs almost $100,000
Tesla has stopped selling the rear-wheel drive version of the Cybertruck, the cheapest version of its electric pickup truck that sold for $60,000. At the same time, the company raised the price of the next four-wheel drive version of the Cybertruck. Now it is 99,990 USD, which means that they raised the price of the e-vehicle by almost 40 thousand dollars.
The Cyberbeast, a tri-motor version of the truck that has more torque and a higher top speed than the standard all-wheel-drive EV, is also more expensive at $119,990, up from $99,990,000 before prices. Considering that Tesla listed the price of the electric pickup truck at US$39,990 when it was introduced, this price increase is especially grim.
On the bright side, the company has shortened delivery times, which is kind of expected, since with a price increase they expect fewer orders, but more overall profit. Tesla estimates that it will be able to deliver the Cybertruck AWD to customers between August and September 2024, while it lists the Cyberbeast as October to December 2024. Prior to that, orders were tied for delivery in 2025.
The price hikes are just one more piece of bad news in the last month for Cybertruck owners. They had to deal with two recalls for bad gas pedals and faulty wiper blades. In general, Tesla is also going through a difficult period of declining profits, investigations, lawsuits and recalls.
