Solid State drive with a capacity of 256 terabytes
There is never enough space to store data, and it still grows too slowly on Solid State drives to meet the needs of the most demanding users. Nevertheless, the situation in this area is improving, as Solid State drives have more and more space available. The Samsung company recently managed to combine incredible capacity, speed of operation and even compactness in a new product intended for server environments.
Samsung's new drive with the sales designation PM9A3a is based on 3D NAND QLC memory elements and a PCIe 5.0 x4 interface. The novelty is extremely fast in operation. The reading speed is an enviable almost 15 gigabytes per second. In addition, it can store as much as 256 terabytes of data. Since it is one drive, it consumes as much as 60 percent less electricity compared to, for example, eight Solid State drives with a capacity of 32 terabytes.
Of course, Samsung's amazing Solid State drive is not intended for ordinary users. It was ready for server systems. There, capacity, speed and economy of electricity are the key conditions for success. Unfortunately, Samsung has not yet revealed the retail price of the new drive. However, since it is the first Solid State drive with a capacity of 256 terabytes, we believe that the novelty will be anything but cheap.
