Microcomputers are a very niche category. Those who know how to take advantage of such devices can use them in many areas, for example as a basic web server, VPN gateway, for monitoring security systems, etc. In recent years, along with their popularity, their price has also increased, which is why they have also gained new competitors, mainly from China.

Mini computers, which can be purchased for around €200-300, are a better option for quite a few scenarios. But let's leave that for another time. The purpose of the article is to present a new product from Orange Pi, which could be a worthy alternative to the most famous microcomputer Raspberry Pi. It is called Orange Pi RV and is based on the StarFive JH711 processor (1.5 GHz), which with eight cores is sufficient for all possible tasks that are usually performed on such computers. RAM is available up to 8 GB (LPDDR4), and you can also add a full-size SSD disk (2280). It has all the classic connectors, including USB 3.0, HDMI, 3.5-mm headphone jack, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and the like.

The Orange Pi RV desktop computer supports video up to 4K (30 fps). The novelty is not too expensive. The entry-level version of the Orange Pi RV equipped with two gigabytes of system memory is sold on the Amazon online store for 38 euros. The more powerful version with four gigabytes of system memory is available for 48 euros.
