New AMD graphics cards in early 2025
AMD recently hosted its third quarter earnings call for its investors. The revenue from the gaming department was not hung up on a big bell (revenue decreased by 29 % compared to the previous quarter), but they confirmed that the next generation of RDNA 4 graphics cards will be available in early 2025.
"In addition to significantly increasing gaming performance, RDNA 4 delivers significantly greater raytracing performance and adds new artificial intelligence capabilities," CEO Lisa Su said at the event.
Rumors about the exact release date of the new graphics cards have been circulating on the Internet for a long time. The well-known whistleblower Chiphell announced some time ago that AMD will present new cards at CES 2025. In addition to the new desktop cards, it is also expected to present the new Strix Halo chips, which should first be installed in the new ROG Flow Z13 tablet, and Ryzen Z2 for handhelds.
AMD expects gaming revenue to continue to decline this quarter, largely due to aging PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles, which aren't exactly the company's main focus right now anyway. On the call, Su pointed out that games only account for 2 % of the company's revenue, while data centers now account for more than half of the business. She says her next task, after spending 10 years transforming AMD, is to "become the leader in end-to-end artificial intelligence."
This has been clear to fans for some time, as the company recently announced that they are withdrawing from the highest class of graphics cards, where they have not been able to compete with Nvidia for several generations.
