MediaTek introduced a new mid-range chip
MediaTek has officially launched the Dimensity 8250 – its latest processor for mid-range phones and tablets. It is a refresh of the Dimensity 8200 chip from 2022, which at the time stood out mainly for its use of a 4-nanometer manufacturing process, which was a rarity for Mediatek outside the 9000 series.
There isn't much difference between the two chips. The newer Dimensity 8250 is a solid variant with four Cortex-A78 cores (one clocked at 3.1 GHz, the other at 3.0 GHz) and four Cortex-A55 (2.0 GHz). The graphics core is more impressive with a Mali-G610 MC6 configuration. The display driver supports up to FHQ+ displays at 180 Hz or QHD+ displays at 120 Hz.
Dimensity 8250 phones can be configured with quad-channel LPDDR5 RAM (up to 6400 Mbps) and UFS 3.1 storage.
As for the camera, the image processor handles HDR in 14-bit and can handle sensors up to 320 MP or three 32 MP cameras simultaneously.
4K video recording is available at up to 60 frames per second, and the chip has built-in AV1 decoding up to 4K resolution. The display adapter also supports HDR10+ Adaptive and has built-in SDR to HDR conversion with artificial intelligence that reduces noise in videos.
The first Dimensity 8250 chipset is just around the corner - the first phone equipped with it, the Oppo Reno12, is coming at the end of May, but not in our market.
