Dimensity 7200 Ultra processor: great for games and photography

Dimensity 7200 Ultra processor: great for games and photography

MediaTek is trying to carve out a bigger piece of the pie in the rich Android ecosystem, where the processor field has been dominated by Qualcomm for many years. They have recently started testing connectivity via satellite and have had good success in building cost-effective system-on-chips (SoCs) for affordable Android phones and tablets. The company is putting even more effort into becoming a more recognizable name in the space of premium mobile devices. Therefore, it has established a strategy to introduce a larger number of premium-class Dimensity 9000 processors annually.

Now, MediaTek has focused on its line for the upper middle class – with the new Dimensity 7000 series processor.

MediaTek presented the new Dimensity 7200 Ultra chip on Weibo somewhat modestly and without much fanfare, which will be presented for the first time in the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ phone. This news comes a few months after the manufacturer introduced its first 7200 chip. The latest model, the Dimensity 7200 Ultra, boasts a powerful 8-core processor based on TSMC's 4nm process - and that's something that was previously only available to flagship chips like the Dimensity 9200+ or Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

The octa-core processor supports two ARM Cortex-A715 cores (2.8 GHz) and six Cortex-A510 cores (2.0 GHz).

But mobile chips are much more than just processors – they're entire systems-on-chips (SoCs) that control every task on the phone. The latest Dimensity boasts advanced AI (artificial intelligent) imaging features, including an Arm Mali-G610 graphics core and an AI processor called the APU 650. Its 14-bit HDR-ISP image processor supports up to 200MP photo lenses and 4K video recording at 30 frames per second. Therefore, users can capture stunning photos in low light conditions or in total darkness. In addition, with autofocus control, you can capture images with two cameras at the same time without losing quality.

The graphics core can power an FHD+ display with a refresh rate of up to 144Hz. Photography enthusiasts and mobile gamers will also benefit from the added graphics processing power.

In addition to strong optimizations for games, the chipset also includes a powerful 5G modem for fast connection and faster data transfer.
