Google will soon delete accounts that have not been active for the past 2 years
As early as three years ago, Google announced that it would remove content stored in an inactive account (but not the account itself) in order to conserve storage space. The tech giant recently decided to update its inactivity policy so that old, unused accounts will be deleted later this year. Namely, Google started deleting inactive accounts on December 1st. He took a “gradual approach” to this, starting with “accounts that were created and never used. The company says it will "introduce any major steps slowly and cautiously."
Before Google permanently deletes your account, you will receive several deletion notifications to your account email address and recovery email address (if provided). Here, Google also refers to security. Inactive accounts are more likely to fall victim to cyber criminals – often with old or reused passwords that may have been compromised in the past.
How can you keep your account active? In addition to periodic registration, registration and performing basic actions are also considered as activities. These include reading or sending email (for example, viewing an inactivity alert), using Google Drive services, watching videos within the YouTube online service, downloading apps from the Google Play Store, using Google Search, and using a Google Account to sign in to an app or services of other providers. So if you don't want to lose access to your otherwise inactive Google account, now is the high time to act immediately.
