Fantastic news for fans of Dragon Quest games
The Nintendo Direct event that took place on June 18 answered the long-standing wishes of fans who want to replay the older Dragon Quest games on the Nintendo Switch console and other platforms. They announced the remake of Dragon Quest 1, 2 and also 3. They set a date for the remake of the first two games once in 2025, and for the third game on November 14, 2024.
The third game in the Dragon Quest franchise is one of the most famous, as it is the beginning of the trilogy of the main protagonist Erdrick. A remake of the third game was originally announced during the franchise's 35th anniversary. The developers have announced that the game will feature gameplay based on the Octopath Traveler style of play. Although it's an HD remake, players can still expect the original graphics in vibrant HD-2D. The same can be said for the remakes of Dragon Quest 1 & 2, which are narratively quite separate from the third game.
Square Enix has announced that Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake will arrive in 2025, giving players plenty of time to speculate on what to expect. Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake is set to release on November 14 for PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch.
All three games share the same protagonist, Erdrick, and are part of the same story, with the third game being the first chronologically. It is then followed on the timeline by the first game and then the second. With that in mind, it makes sense for the developers to release the third game in the franchise before the other two. Dragon Quest 2 is considered by fans to be the hardest of all the games.
Which one is the best? Opinions are divided here. Dragon Quest 3 is on many lists, but equally popular are Dragon Quest VIII and XI.
