Best-selling cars from the biggest manufacturers

Volkswagen has the Beetle and the Golf, Fiat has the 500, Renault boasts the Clio, Peugeot the 206.
Best-selling cars from the biggest manufacturers

Each manufacturer has created quite a few high-profile cars. For some, it is immediately clear to us that they are a sales hit. But there are also quite a few that you might not expect to top the list. We scoured the web and gathered the best selling cars from the biggest manufacturers.

The Ferrari 458 has 24,000 owners

Ferrari and similar manufacturers do not need to sell millions of units of a particular model. First and foremost, they sell exclusivity, and owners of luxury horses would not be happy to see a Ferrari parked on every corner.

The Ferrari 430 was the best-selling Ferrari until the release of the 458. A good 17,000 examples left the Italian factories, and the 458 model further improved this and delighted 24,000 owners. To be more precise, they sold 15,000 italias, 3,000 speciales and 6,000 spiders.

The successor, the ferrari 488, almost equaled the numbers of its predecessor, but it was discontinued before that. The Purosangue SUV is the next car that could break the Italian manufacturer's record.

Lamborghini Urus

Lamborghini never remains indebted to Ferrari. He had quite a few hits. The Gallardo sold 14,000 units, the Huracan almost 20,000. Seven years ago, however, they started producing their biggest hit to date – the Lamborghini Urus. The current number of sold is around 25,000, you will also notice it on our roads.

Maserati Levante

Italians are often the envy of many automotive countries. Clearly, they are the breeding ground of every (small and big) child's dream sports car. Although usually overshadowed by its other Italian counterparts, Maserati holds the bragging rights when it comes to sales numbers.

The Maserati biturbo stopped at the number 36,373, and the current Levante model records the greatest success. Since the start of production (in 2016), more than 100,000 of these cars have been sold.

Aston Martin vantage

Another manufacturer of luxury and sportiness that has also had quite a few hits. The Aston Martin DB7 has been the pinnacle of the British manufacturer for quite some time. Then came the vantage (2005) and in almost 20 years they managed to convince more than 25,000 owners that it was better than the Italian charmers. In all likelihood, he will have to hand over the crown to the newcomer Aston Martin DBX, but that won't happen anytime soon.

Jaguar XJ

For a long time, Jaguar had a reputation as a manufacturer of unreliable cars, but this did not stop the company from producing more than a million XJ cars. They have been produced since 1968, when they were also known as the best sedans, especially in the V12 version with a 5.3-liter engine.

Porsche 911

The Porsche 911 is a sports car that you can drive to work, shops and other errands every day. It has been advertised this way since 1963, when it was first produced. It is one of the oldest models still in production. They still sell around 30,000 Porsche 911s every year, and in total over 1.2 million have been sold over the past 60 years.

Alfa Romeo alfasud

It was difficult to compete with the Golf in the 1970s and 1980s, although quite a few manufacturers tried. Alfa Romeo produced a front-wheel-drive gem that impressed with the fun to drive and character that graced Alfa Romeo cars for many years. The alfasud model was a strong competitor to the golf, and in 17 years (1972-1989) more than a million cars were produced. If the build quality wasn't questionable (rust was ubiquitous), we might have sold even more cars.

Volvo 200

The Swedish manufacturer of "tanks" in the form of a car anchored itself in the memory of the older generation with the 200 model. Between 1974 and 1993, almost three million families were transported with it.

Citroen 2CV

Citroën and the then president, Piere-Jules Boulanger, resisted the German occupation during the Second World War and refused to reveal the plans for the TPV model of the time, which was later used as the basis for the French manufacturer's biggest hit - the 2CV.

The Citroen 2CV was designed for farmers who in those days still relied on horses and carts. The 2CV was therefore an extremely simple car with low maintenance costs and an excellent air-cooled engine. Since paved roads were not commonplace in those days, the 2CV was advertised as a car that could cross a freshly plowed field with a basket of eggs in the passenger seat.

The nickname "umbrella on wheels" stuck to it for a long time. During 50 years of production, 3.9 million units were sold.

Seat ibiza

Porsche, Karmann and ItalDesign came together in 1984 to create the Ibiza model, and the rest, as they say, is history. By 1990, when Seat took over Volkswagen, 1.3 million ibizas had been sold, and more than 6.5 million have been sold to date.

Kia sportage

We were able to drive a Kia on European soil for the first time in 2006, when the first cars left the Slovakian factory in Žilina. The Sportage model was presented already in 1993, but at that time it was a minor disappointment due to poorer handling and a less comfortable ride. He got a new chance in 2004 and started a much more successful chapter with the conversion and also caught the wave of SUVs that started to impress the public in time. They have sold more than 7 million copies so far.

Skoda octavia

The Octavia is the best-selling car of the Czech manufacturer owned by Volkswagen in almost every period. It was introduced in 1996, and it borrowed its name from the model that was already produced between 1959 and 1971. Almost 40 % of all cars produced by Skoda are Octavies, or more precisely, they sold more than 7 .5 million.

Audi A4

The Audi A4 is credited with establishing the manufacturer among the strong competition of luxury cars. In the first year alone (1994) they sold 120,000 copies, and in the next 30 years an additional 8 million were sold.

Fiat uno

We can thank the Italians for the legendary fičkot, which started life as the fiat 600. It is interesting, however, that the fiat 500, which is the most famous model of this manufacturer, is not the best-selling car in their history. That honor goes to the Fiat Uno, which was a hot commodity in the 80s and 90s. When its lifespan ended, the number stopped at 8.8 million copies.

But he won't stay on top for long. Panda and fiat 500 are still selling and are very close to record numbers.

Peugeot 206

It first appeared in hatchback form (1998), two years later as a coupe convertible, then as a convertible and then as a sedan. In Europe, it was replaced by the 207 in 2006, but its production continued in other markets. The last production line was shut down last year in Iran. A long, 25-year history has meant that more than 10 million 206 cars have been sold worldwide.

Hyundai Elantra

Hyundai is an often overlooked brand, even though the Elantra is one of the best selling cars of all time. More than 14 million have been sold since 1990. The origin of the success can be found in the availability of the model in almost all markets, its low price, low costs and good driving. The Elantra was also sold under the i30 and lantra badges in some places.

Renault clio

The Clio is (unsurprisingly) the best-selling French car of all time. As many as 16 million cliots have driven on the world's roads in the last 30 years. If they were placed one after the other, they would circle the Earth 1.6 times. It is sold in more than 120 countries and is available in practically every version.

Lada riva

On the eastern side of the Iron Curtain, they needed a car that could survive bad roads, weather and fuel shortages. They saw potential in the Fiat 124, which became the foundation for the legendary Lado Riva. They replaced Italian beauty with Russian robustness, which paid off for them. If you like to stay in mountain huts, there is a good chance that you will find a lado riva parked in front here and there, with which they help in supplying raw materials.

18 million copies were sold.

Volkswagen Golf

When you think VW, you think Golf and Beetle. One of these is also their best-selling model. Since they don't make the bug anymore, the only logical winner is the golf. They make as many as 2,000 golfs every day, and in total they have sold more than 36 million of them.

Toyota corolla

A new Corolla is built every 15 seconds and it is also the best selling car of all time. They started making it in 1966, and over the next six decades they managed to make and sell 51 million of them.
