Apple now also allows PC emulators in its store
Apple recently pulled the DOS emulator iDOS 3 from the App Store, but following changes to App Store rules that appear to have opened the door to PC emulators, iDOS 3 is now available for download, developer Chaoji Li has announced.
In June, Li said Apple rejected iDOS 3 because it violated the App Store's 4.7 guidelines. At the time, this rule allowed retro game console emulator apps to appear in the store, but Apple only allowed retro game console emulators based on this rule, not PC emulators. UTM SE, another popular emulator, also said they were rejected for violating Apple store rules.
However, Apple reversed its decision in July and approved UTM SE, and earlier this month added the words "PC emulator" to Guide 4.7, making iDOS 3 now allowed on the App Store.
Although iDOS 3 has been approved, Li is still cautious. "We've been waiting a long time for common sense to prevail at Apple," Li wrote in his blog. “As much as I'd like to celebrate, I still can't help but be a little cautious about the future. Are we safe from now on?”
iDOS 3 is available from the Apple Store for 99 cents, and UTM SE is free.
