Apple confirms that all iPhone 16 models are equipped with 8GB of RAM

A week after Apple's big event that brought the new iPhone 16 series, Apple has finally decided to confirm one of the main specifications that iPhone fans have been waiting for. It's also now official that all 16-series iPhones come with 8GB of RAM.

Technology portal 9to5Mac noticed that one of Apple's executives, namely Johny Srouji, confirmed the above information in an interview with Geekerwan. For some unknown reason, Apple never discloses RAM with other technical specifications. This means that after the release of a new series of iPhones, a kind of detective work always begins, during which journalists around the world look for such confirmations.

A few days ago, the Tech Radar portal spotted a piece of code in Apple's official developer toolkit that indicated that all iPhone 16 models have 8GB of RAM. Now this information is also confirmed. Last year, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max were equipped with 8GB of RAM, while the base model iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus offered 6GB.

This means that the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus models received an update, while the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max remain at the level of last year's models. In addition, this means that the difference between the standard and Pro models of the iPhone is shrinking.

Apple's decision not to add RAM for two models in the series probably disappointed the public. Mainly because we are all waiting hard for Apple Intelligence, which, like all other UI operations, requires a lot of memory. This is especially true for cases where processing takes place directly on the device, and in such a case, additional RAM still comes in handy.

Additionally, this means that Apple phones lag far behind the Android competition in terms of RAM. The latest Google Pixel 9 is thus equipped with 12GB of RAM, the Samsung Galaxy S24 with 8GB and the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra reaches up to 12GB of RAM.

However, it is necessary to be aware that these rough specifications do not always tell the whole story. Given that Apple has complete control over every part of the iPhone's design and architecture, it can often add optimizations that somehow outweigh lower spec levels. Another example of this is battery capacity – iPhones can often compete with rivals in terms of battery life despite their smaller batteries.

We will have to wait for iOS 18 and Apple Intelligence to live up to their full potential for a final assessment of how this 8GB of RAM reacts in practice.
