AMD attacks with the Ryzen 7 7040HS family of processors
AMD recently announced the launch of a new family of long-awaited Ryzen 7000 processors for PCs. Recently, however, the company also introduced Ryzen 7000 family processors for laptops. This is the Ryzen 7040HS (Phoenix) processor family.
The processors of the Ryzen 7040HS family will be intended for both desktop and laptop computers. At full load, they consume from 35 watts to 54 watts of electrical power. The first laptop equipped with the new AMD Ryzen 7040HS family processors is the interesting Razer Blade 14 2023.
AMD has offered for sale three models of processors of the Ryzen 7040HS family. Here are the models Ryzen 9 7940HS (8 physical cores, 16 cores, 24 MB cache, frequency 5.2/4.0 GHz), Ryzen 7 7840HS (8 physical cores, 16 cores, 24 MB cache, 5.1/ 3.8 GHz frequency) and Ryzen 5 7540HS (6 physical cores, 12 cores, 24 MB cache, 5.0/4.3 GHz frequency). The more powerful models Ryzen 9 7940HS and Ryzen 7 7840HS also have a built-in Radeon 780M graphics core, while the Ryzen 5 7640HS model has a Radeon 760M graphics core. Newbies will cope with more demanding tasks.
The first performance measurements of the newcomers are extremely encouraging. The Ryzen 9 7940HS processor outperforms even the Core i9-13900H processor from rival Intel by up to 41 percent. The novelty is even more powerful than Apple's M2 Pro processor, by up to 11 percent.
