Tesla with a cheaper car before summer?

Tesla with a cheaper car before summer?

Tesla is looking for new strategies to accelerate or revitalize sales. One strategy is to produce more affordable models that could reach a completely different target group of drivers. There is no reason to panic yet, but Tesla recorded a drop in sales in 2024 (the exception is the Chinese market), which is why the decision to make cheaper cars was made. Last year, they sold 1.79 million cars, a good 20,000 more than the year before.

Tesla predicts that the company could increase sales by more than 60 percent with the lower-cost models, to about 3 million cars. Production is expected to begin in the first half of 2025, sometime by the summer.

They will use features from the existing Model 3 and Y platforms, as well as the new architecture introduced last year. The cars will also be built on the same factory lines as Tesla's existing cars, meaning they are an evolution of existing vehicles rather than completely new cars.

Rumors of Tesla's cheaper cars have been circulating online for some time, but Elon Musk has always denied them. When the Cybercab, an autonomous two-seater, was unveiled in October, Musk said it was the car consumers expected to cost around €25,000.

In all likelihood, the new models coming off Tesla's production line will not be in this class or lower, but their prices will range around 30,000 euros, which is about 10,000 euros less than the Model 3 is selling for. Will this be a low enough price for Tesla to fend off the onslaught of Chinese manufacturers BYD, Nio and others? We'll see this summer.
