How much will it cost to extend Windows 10 support?
Microsoft will end support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025. If you want to continue using the operating system safely, you will have to pay an annual fee. Microsoft will offer Extended Security Updates (ESU) to Windows 10 users.
Microsoft will charge normal users for extended support for the Windows 10 operating system after October 14, 2025 a calculated 27.59 euros. Of course, companies will have to shell out a bit more. For the first year of extended support, companies will have to pay a calculated 56.11 euros per computer. The additional year of support will amount to a calculated 112.21 euros, and for the last third year, companies will have to pay a calculated 224.42 euros per individual computer, which of course is not exactly cheap.
Fortunately, extended support for educational institutions will be much cheaper. For the first year of extended support, institutions will have to pay a calculated 0.92 euros per computer. An additional year of support will amount to a calculated 1.84 euros. For the last third year, companies will have to pay a calculated 3.68 euros per individual computer. For larger institutions, this will naturally represent a significant financial cost.
Microsoft, of course, wants consumers to switch to Windows 11 instead. However, due to stricter hardware requirements and Microsoft's security measures regarding the latest operating system, several million users cannot officially upgrade their computers to Windows 11. The Windows 11 operating system is only supported on processors released in 2018 and later and on devices that support TPM security chips. This can be bypassed, but not always without problems.
