Windows apps on Chrome OS?
Google recently announced a big change for Chromebooks that could help them last a few years longer. Starting in 2024, ChromeOS devices will be eligible for automatic security updates for up to 10 years after their release. Chromebooks released in 2021 or later will receive all updates. Owners of older devices will have the option to manually select individual updates.
But Chromebooks are about to get even better. Google has announced its intention to acquire Cameyo, which is known for its technology for running Windows applications within the ChromeOS operating system. This is Virtual App Delivery (VAD) virtualization technology, which was developed in cooperation with Google. This will be especially appreciated by companies and institutions, as it allows us to run Windows applications without the need to install the Windows system.
Cameyo's Virtual App Delivery (VAD) virtualization technology will soon become part of ChromeOS. Unfortunately, there is currently no information on when this will actually happen. But this will undoubtedly further increase the popularity of personal computers Chromebooks, especially when it comes to companies and education.
