GPD makes a laptop with two screens that flip and fold

The company GPD has been producing laptops and minicomputers for many years, but now they have turned their attention to classic laptops as well. Well, the latest GPD Duo laptop isn't exactly a classic. It will have two screens, both 13-inch, with an OLED panel. There will be no shortage of connectors, nor will there be support for a stylus.

We've seen quite a few new dual-screen laptops over the past year, and on paper the GPD Duo looks just as practical as any of its rivals. Maybe even a little more. GPD has stacked two 13.3-inch OLED panels so that there is an extra screen on top. This is similar to Asus' new Zenbook Duo, which we also tested, but GPD wants to do it without the removable keyboard and stand, so that the second screen can be folded behind the main one in a form that looks like a normal laptop (see image).

The second screen on the GPD Duo can be folded into a tablet form factor with support for pen input. "When folded, the device is about the size of an A4 sheet of paper, but when both screens are fully extended, it measures 18 inches," GPD writes in a post on Xu. The displays support 10-point touch, 4,096 levels of pen pressure sensitivity, and the Microsoft Pen Protocol for Surface Pen compatibility.

Although GPD doesn't specify the exact connector, it looks like there will be an Ethernet connector on the back in addition to the OcuLink port for connecting to an external graphics card. There are at least two USB ports on the side, and on the left side of the laptop there appears to be some kind of card reader.

The GPD Duo will have a full-size keyboard and a regular trackpad, differentiating it from Lenovo's Yoga Book 9i, which came with a separate Bluetooth keyboard that you attached to the second screen. It's also not immediately clear which processor will power the GPD Duo laptop. It mentions a rated power of 35W and that it will be a computer with artificial intelligence, which is not a confirmation that the computer will be equipped with new Snapdragon chips. Computex is in a week's time, and that's when we expect to learn even more information, possibly including a release date.
