Batman is also coming to VR goggles
Meta has announced that the next game in the Batman Arkham franchise, which will be called Arkham Shadow, will actually be a virtual reality game and will be available exclusively on the Meta Quest 3 VR goggles.
VR game developer Iron Man and Oculus Studios have been given the flattering task of portraying this legendary character in virtual reality. For now, we don't know much about the game, except that it will be released by the end of this year. But we got a short trailer where we put ourselves in the shoes of Gotham's protector and dash across the rooftops and streets of this dark city.
While the trailer doesn't show actual gameplay features, we could tell that much of the game will be floating over Gotham, just like we're used to in the now-iconic Arkham games. Along with fighting and chasing villains, hovering and performing acrobatics is one of the dark hero's most recognizable elements.
Meta also has yet to say who will be voicing Batman. Kevin Conroy, the voice actor best known for his iconic performance in the role, died in 2022, but not before lending his voice to Batman in Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League.
Arkham Shadow marks the second time the Batman: Arkham series has gotten the VR treatment. In 2016, Rocksteady Studios released Batman: Arkham VR on PSVR before porting the game to other VR goggles. The game was presented at E3 2016, but the reception was not the most positive. There were a lot of elements missing that fans had come to expect from a Batman-starring game.
Batman: Arkham Shadow is set to release exclusively for Meta Quest 3 later this year, and Meta wrote that we can expect more details about the game to be revealed at the big Summer Game Fest launch on June 7. Whether it will also come to Quest 2 and other VR glasses is not yet known.
