Slimbook Fedora computers for open source enthusiasts

Linux hardware manufacturer Slimbook and the Fedora Project recently announced the introduction of Slimbook Fedora 2 notebooks. These are the first notebooks to come with the latest release of Fedora Linux 40 pre-installed.

Slimbook Fedora 2 notebooks with sleek black magnesium chassis are powered by Intel Core i7 13700H (13th generation) processors with 14 cores, 20 threads, 24 MB cache, Intel Iris Xe G7 graphics clocked at up to 5 GHz and have dedicated NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 graphics ( 8 GB GDDR6).

Slimbook Fedora 2 laptops are available in two versions, with 14-inch and 16-inch LTPS screens with a resolution of 2880 x 1800 pixels and WQXGA 2560 x 1600, a maximum brightness of 400 cd/m2, 100% sRGB, a contrast ratio of 1500:1, a frequency 90 Hz refresh rate and 16:10 aspect ratio.

Fedora-powered Linux laptops also have two 5200 MHz DDR5 slots for up to 64GB of RAM, two NVMe M.2 2280 PCIe Gen4 x4 slots for up to 8TB SSD storage with RAID support 0/1, webcam (1080p) with two stereo microphones, US ANSI keyboard layout and IR webcam for dedicated biometric facial recognition.

Slimbook Fedora 2 notebooks have two USB-A 3.2 Gen1 ports, USB-C 3.2 Gen2 port with Displayport 1.4 output, USB-C Thunderbolt 4 port with Displayport 1.4a output and Power Delivery, HDMI 2.1 port, Intel Wi-Fi 6 wireless connection AX201, Bluetooth 5.2 and a combined 3.5 mm jack for headphones and a microphone.

As expected, the laptops come pre-installed with the latest release of the Fedora Linux 40 Workstation operating system with the GNOME 46 desktop environment. The latest Nouveau drivers are also available, giving users a much better experience with the dedicated NVIDIA GPU on the 16-inch model. For the 14-inch model, it will be necessary to pay around 1,400 euros, and for the larger one, an additional 300-400 euros.
