What will the new OnePlus Pad 2 tablet bring us?
Could the OnePlus Pad 2 finally challenge Samsung's dominance of high-end Android tablets?
After surprising the market with the well-received OnePlus Pad, OnePlus could begin attacking Samsung's dominance of high-end Android tablets. If the first hints are true, the upcoming OnePlus Pad 2 could finally fill the void in the market and present itself as a real competitor to the Galaxy Tab.
Tech journalist Max Jambor, who previously hinted that the OnePlus Pad 2 would be released in the second half of 2024, has now revealed that the upcoming tablet will be based on Qualcomm's flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. This powerful processor powers the flagship smartphones of 2024 , such as the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, and will also power the upcoming Galaxy Tab S10 series of tablets.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is a huge leap over the powerful MediaTek Dimensity 9000 processor found in the original OnePlus Pad. The flagship chipset could pave the way for other interesting upgrades, such as a potential switch from LCD to AMOLED, a feature of Samsung's high-end tablets.
While these upgrades could result in a higher price tag for the OnePlus Pad 2, the company could still find a way to offer compelling value compared to Samsung's offerings. Another possibility is that OnePlus will use its smartphone strategy and release a more affordable “R” version of the OnePlus Pad 2 tablet. For now, we can only guess.
The OnePlus Pad 2 is expected to launch in the second half of 2024, which could follow Samsung's Galaxy Tab S10 series, which is expected to be announced in July.
