TikTok banned in Montana

TikTok banned in Montana

The Chinese mobile app TikTok currently has more than two billion downloads on smartphones and tablets. The social network TikTok is popular primarily because it allows users to quickly and easily post short videos and add effects and filters.

But American politicians are not overly enthusiastic about the TikTok social network. They are convinced that the social network TikTok illegally collects personal data of American users. So it's no surprise that the US Senate voted against the use of the TikTok app on government devices some time ago, so US officials will no longer be allowed to have the TikTok app installed on their work phones or tablets.

Recently, however, there was a legal ban on the use of the TikTok social network even for regular users. The US state of Montana was the first to do this. This is a law called "SB 419", which will enter into force on January 1 next year. The law requires the withdrawal of the social network TikTok or the installation application from the mobile stores Play Store and App Store. In case of disobedience, the company will be fined 9,140 euros per day. According to officials, users will not be penalized for possible continued use of TikTok.

Tiktok is just one of the Chinese apps that have been banned in the US state of Montana. In addition to the popular mobile app, the government also banned Telegram, WeChat and Temu. The main reason for the ban, however, is (ironically) the fear that these apps pose a threat to the privacy of American citizens.
